Nathalie Seddon

Nathalie Seddon is a Professor of Biodiversity and the Founding Director of the Nature-based Solutions Initiative at the University of Oxford, where she works in the Departments of Biology and Geography (Smith School for Enterprise and the Environment). She also directs the Agile Initiative and is a Senior Research Fellow at Wadham College.

With over 25 years of research experience as an evolutionary ecologist trained at Cambridge University, Nathalie has focused on understanding biodiversity and its relationship with global change. Her current work explores how nature-based solutions can enable social and ecological flourishing.

Nathalie advises governments, UN agencies, and the private sector on nature-based solutions. She serves on the UK Climate Change Committee’s Adaptation Committee, the IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions’ Science & Knowledge Committee, and is a Trustee of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance.

In 2021, she co-founded the Oxford University Social Venture, Nature-based Insights, where she serves as a non-executive Director
